JUNE 2025
MasterChef Science ($420/pax; June 30 - July 4, 2025; 7-14yos; 9am - 12pm daily@NLCS)
In this fun and engaging food science program, aspiring MasterChefs will explore the chemistry of cooking and baking! Students will learn about food molecules and how chemical reactions can affect food texture and flavour. They'll discover how proteins interact to create soft fluffy bread, and experiment with heat, sugar and caramelization to create the viral Dalgona toffee! The program covers diverse culinary adventures, such as creating popping bubble tea and crafting the perfect chocolate chip cookie. Through exciting hands-on projects, students will learn about: • Proteins (gluten, yeast, and bread-making) • Carbohydrates (sugars, caramelisation, and candy-making) • Fats (saturated and unsaturated fats, emulsion, and meringue-making) • Food macromolecule interactions in Baking (Maillard Reaction) Additionally, they will develop practical skills for making informed nutritional choices by reading labels for smarter meal decisions.
Start Date: 30 Jun 2025
End Date: 04 Jul 2025
JULY 2025
Whizz, Pop, Bang! ($420/pax; July 7-11, 2025; 5-9yos; 9am - 12pm daily @NLCS)
In this fun and engaging STEM program, young scientists will embark on an exciting exploration of physics and chemistry through engaging, hands-on experiments and engineering activities that promise ooey-gooey, fizzy fun! A great way to make your child’s first memories of science fun and meaningful! Kids will delight in hands-on learning activities that may include: Discovering the forces of aerodynamics…with stomp rockets! Exploring states of matter and phase changes…with dry ice! Experimenting with the properties of water – with the ancient Japanese art of suminagashi! Learning the science behind non-Newtonian fluids and polymers..with oobleck, slime, and much, much more!
Start Date: 07 Jul 2025
End Date: 11 Jul 2025
Stop Motion Animation Adventures ($420/pax; July 7-11, 2025; 7-14yos; 9am - 12pm daily@NLCS)
Lights, camera, action! In this exciting program, aspiring filmmakers will take a peek behind the scenes and discover the magic of animation! Learn the science and history behind the art, and how animators create the illusion of movement with still images. Experiment with different media to create short stop motion animated films and discover how to create sound effects for movies and cartoons! Working in small teams, junior animators will learn about the filmmaking process, from storyboarding to video editing, as they work with different materials to bring their stories to life. Students will: •Discover the fundamentals of storytelling and scriptwriting •Learn how to capture stop-motion frames and animate characters •Explore the features of animation software to edit images, add sound effects and music, and edit the video timeline
Start Date: 07 Jul 2025
End Date: 11 Jul 2025
LEGO Robotics: Battlebots! ($420/pax; July 7-11, 2025; 7-12yos; 9am - 12pm daily@NLCS)
In this fun introduction to robotics, kids will learn to build and program progressively more challenging robots using LEGO SPIKE Prime robotics and a drag-and-drop Scratch-based programming software. Young engineers will discover how to use coding, sensors and attachments to make their robots perform specific tasks, even as they hone problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills. The camp will culminate in a final mini competition where kids will battle their wits and bots in the ring! Young engineers will gain a foundation in the basics of robotics and coding, and will develop their logical problem solving skills. They'll have a blast: Discovering the fundamentals of block-based coding and basic programming logic, and how robot motion is realized Exploring the working principles of sensors Honing their creativity as they learn to analyze construction challenges and break large problems down into smaller ones
